Moving is already difficult, but when you factor in your business’ IT, it becomes twice as frustrating and time-consuming. You can make it easier by preparing for the job ahead of time. Today, we want to cover what you can do to prepare for a business IT move well ahead of the scheduled date.
## Prepare In Advance
First, you must consider the location where you’re moving and how the move will impact your company’s operations.
Consider whether your new location is ready for new equipment to be installed, including climate control, electrical supplies, and security for all of your solutions. Make sure that all the technology you require is properly connected and configured. Otherwise, you risk your company’s operations unexpectedly grinding to a halt during the move.
Remember, it’s always better to act now to prevent these issues than react to them later.
## Examine Your Current Infrastructure
Now that you have an idea of what you’re working with, consider what you have to move.
Depending on your business' resources, your move could be easy or a headache. Consider whether what you have will work and how you can optimize it in the new space. Pay close attention to your communication setup here, as the amount of cabling and hardware might need to be adjusted.
Any move is a good opportunity to see what can be changed and improved.
## Consider Improvements While You’re At It
When was the last time you thought about improving your network?
It makes sense to see how your business can improve its infrastructure during a move, particularly with security and access control. Your data infrastructure should be secure even during the move, so make sure you identify your resources and how to protect them accordingly.
Finally, consider whether any hardware needs to be replaced. The cloud can be leveraged to eliminate unneeded hardware.
