If you feel like you never have enough time to work through your to-do list, you’re far from the only one. If you make small adjustments to the way you tackle everyday tasks and responsibilities, you might be able to change your productivity habits for the better. Today, we want to explore just that: how you can make the most of your workday with simple, easy tricks.
## Cut Out the Distractions
With so many notifications, office visits, and social media apps, no wonder it’s so difficult to stay focused on your work. You can take back your focus by identifying and eliminating your biggest distractions. If your email is constantly pulling you away from your work, turn notifications off, then identify times to check your inbox. If it’s a noisy environment, consider investing in a good pair of headphones or going to a quieter part of the office to do your work.
It’s also paramount to properly communicate your focused work periods to your colleagues so they know what to expect from your availability. One great strategy to get work done during your focused work periods is the Pomodoro Technique, which harnesses the power of short bursts of time to help you keep your concentration and avoid burnout.
## Be Kind to Yourself
One aspect of productivity that’s often forgotten about is how it’s difficult to maintain focus when you’re not feeling well, either physically or mentally. If you make your physical health a priority by taking regular breaks to stretch and move, you’ll be a lot happier in the workplace. Also be sure to keep yourself hydrated and fed with healthy snacks and meals throughout the day.
Crucially, mental and emotional well-being are connected, so you should be using mindfulness exercises or strategically stepping away from work to aid in keeping your head clear and decluttered. Equally important is celebrating wins and achievements. Remember that you cannot put your best foot forward as an employee if you don’t take care of yourself as a person first, and you should be golden.
## Make Organization a Priority
If there ever was a productivity killer, it’s a lack of organization. Start by building a to-do list and assigning priority levels to your various tasks. Then use digital tools to get these tasks on your schedule; that way, they will actually get done rather than pushed off again and again. For digital files, you can and should keep them organized as well, so you can easily find them when they are needed.
It also helps to declutter your physical workspace. Use time blocks to find time to tidy up so you can stay focused and organized throughout the workday.
